1939-44: Worked at Ministry of Home Security.1945-46: Worked at Council of Industrial Design.1948-71: Principal of the Royal College of Art.1964: Received Knighthood.1974: Died.While working at the Council of Industrial Design Darwin produced a report, The Training of the Industrial Designer, proposing curriculum changes at the Royal College of Art, which led to his appointment as Principal. He radically changed the RCA to independent university status. Unusually for a Principal of the RCA, Darwin was a talented painter, landscape being his favourite subject-matter.
