Terry Frost - 1915-2003

Born in 1915, Frost discovered his artistic talent during the four years he spent as a prisoner of War during the Second World War. On his return to England he studied at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, participating in the artistic scenes of London and St. Ives. By the late 1950's he had become established as a leading abstract painter, exhibiting regularly in London and internationally.

In 1974 Frost moved permanently to Newlyn in Cornwall, where his love of the region has provided a rich source of inspiration for much of his work.

His paintings influenced by the Cornish environment, use simple shapes painted directly onto the canvas in strong vibrating colour which reflect his experience of natural phenomena. Earlier canvases placed greater emphasis on linear movement, later colour played a more structural role, creating tension and movement between forms.
