Maggi Hambling - b.1945
Painter of portraits, figures and a wide range os subjects in oils and watercolours. She studied with Cedric Morris in East Anglia, at Camberwell and at the Slade School, and has exhibited in London galleries since 1967, including the NPG in 1983, the Serpentine in 1987, and in the provinces. Her work is represented in public collections including the Tate Galler. From 1980-1981 she was the first Artist in Reisdence at the National Gallery, London: Her portraits, such as those of Max Wall, are very popular. Her vibrant, colourful paintings express movement and light in energetic marks and recent work has concentrated on the subject of sunrise.
