Blow always acknowledged Hilton’s influence on her work, from the time she lived and worked in Cornwall c.1957-58, commenting that it was to him she owes her use of line in paint. This is evident here in Blow’s use of a strong curvilinear form which bisects the painting. In doing so, Blow creates a dynamic composition in a style which, in time, she was to temper and adapt to great effect, in the more aerial, spatial compositions of the 1960s and 1970s.
