Sandra Blow 1925-2006 Untitled, 1956 oil, plaster and sacking on hardboard 42 by 36 inches
Provenance The Artist
Julian Hartnoll
Private Collection, UK

This painting was made in 1956, and the bottom blue and red section overpainted later in 1963. In 1961, Blow became a tutor at the Royal College of Art. These added stripes are an interesting development in Blow's work, and are reminiscent of the Pop paintings produced by Royal College graduates David Hockney and Allen Jones in 1961-2, and the medal inspired textiles of Zandra Rhodes. |
