Begun in 1630 by Shah Jahan for his late favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. 'Descriptions of this wonderfully lovely place are simply silly, as no words can describe it at all' wrote Edward Lear. 'Henceforth let the inhabitants of this world be divided into two classes "them as has seen the Taj, and them as hasn’t"'.
