William Turnbull at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

The National Galleries of Scotland have recently acquired a number of important early works by William Turnbull.

To mark these new acquisitions, there is a currently a room dedicated to the artist within the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. On display are three paintings, Untitled (Aquarium), 1950; 15-1958, 1958 and 15-1959 (Red Saturation), 1959 and five sculptures, Heavy Insect, 1949; Aquarium, 1949; Acrobat, 1951; Head 2, 1955 and Night, 1962-1963. These are being shown alongside 26 works on paper, which come directly from the artist's estate.

These new works add breadth and depth to Turnbull's, already strong, representation within the permanent collection, which now comprises over forty original works, dating from 1949 to 1980.
