Executed in brooding black and white 'Welsh Landscape' depicts a lonely young man sitting in a barren hilly landscape with a hamlet in the distance. The tectonic quality of the line demonstrates Minton's power as a draughtsman and reflects the emotional turbulence with which he was wracked. Having experienced the harshness of barracks life and fallen impossibly in love with a fellow soldier, admitting his homosexuality to himself and friends for the first time. Minton suffered a nervous breakdown during the early summer of the year in which this work was created.
