The city comes alive during London Gallery Weekend, we can’t wait to get out there. We’ll be heading over to Damien Hirst’s mega takeover at Gagosian’s gallery on Britannia Street for an exhibition dedicated to his formaldehyde works. Next up, the shows across both White Cube spaces look fantastic; in Mason’s Yard, Andreas Gursky’s huge colour photographs look at the effect of capitalism and globalisation on contemporary life, these will look amazing in the space; in Bermondsey, more photography with Jeff Wall’s large, back-lit photographs that look almost like illuminated advertisements. Over in St. James’s, at Ben Hunter’s newly expanded space, you can see modern and contemporary works from greats like Barbara Hepworth, Bridget Riley and Rachel Whiteread and Kim Lim alongside Nicole Coson in a group show called 'Spring'. One of my favourite galleries, Offer Waterman, will also have a Rachel Whiteread work on show, this time a sculpture that we can’t wait to see, alongside drawings by Tarka Kings. Last on our checklist is Arcadia Missa with a Melike Kara exhibition, her works fascinate us because she uses tapestry motifs to make abstract paintings to echo the sampling of weaving techniques and customs that Kurdish tribes borrow from countries they’ve been forced to migrate to.
